When messages go missing, we've found it's almost always down to one of the. Most POP clients delete emails off the server once they've downloaded them.
You can back up your Opera Mail messages so that should you need to restore the emails later, you can do so with little hassle.
It's really easy to back up Opera Mail messages because the program tells you exactly where it's storing every single email. Once you know that, you can make a backup copy of the whole email folder.
As of Opera version 15, released in 2013, Opera Mail is an entirely separate program. In older versions, the email client was built-in to the browser.
How to Make a Backup of Your Opera Mail
The steps you need to take to save your Opera Mail emails depend on whether you're using Opera Mail in the Opera browser or as a standalone program. Any differences will be pointed out in the directions.
-
Select Opera Mail at the top left of the program, and then choose Help > About Opera Mail.Go to Opera > Help > About Opera if you're using the browser to access Opera Mail.
-
Copy the location next to Mail directory, and then close the program.
-
Move to its root folder. The aim here is to see the 'mail' folder — the one that's holding all of the mail information. For example, the folder in our example is C:UsersJonAppDataLocalOperaOperamail, so we want to move 'up' one folder so that we're in C:UsersJonAppDataLocalOperaOpera.
-
Right-click the email folder and copy it. Another quick way to copy a folder is to left-click it once to highlight it, and then execute the Ctrl+Ckeyboard shortcut.
-
Paste the mail folder anywhere you want the information to be backed up to. This could be an online file storage account, a location that gets backed up online, an external hard drive, a flash drive, or even another folder on the same computer.
